Fading Home

project overview

Fading Home is a short 2D animated film that addresses the urgency of climate change through a concise, emotionally driven narrative. The project was developed to communicate complex environmental issues in an accessible and engaging format, responding to the challenge of declining attention spans in contemporary media consumption. The film follows a child’s perspective, using this lens as a metaphor for human behaviour—careless, unaware, and disconnected from long-term consequences. Through a combination of stylised visuals and narrative progression, the story highlights the impact of human actions on the environment while gradually building a sense of urgency and reflection. Visually, the film adopts a simplified yet expressive aesthetic, with carefully constructed colour palettes and atmospheric transitions to reflect environmental decline and emotional tension. The use of animation allows for a symbolic and interpretive representation of climate change, making the message both impactful and widely accessible. The film was independently developed, with me taking on the roles of writer, director, animator, and visual designer. This end-to-end involvement allowed for a cohesive creative vision across storytelling, visual language, and execution. Designed to be approximately three to four minutes in length, the film prioritises clarity and engagement, making it suitable for digital platforms, educational contexts, and film festivals. The narrative concludes on a hopeful note, encouraging individual responsibility and collective action. This project explores how storytelling and visual design can function as tools for awareness, aiming to initiate conversation and inspire meaningful change.
