This House Is Paper

project overview
This House is Paper is an illustrative poetry book that explores themes of vulnerability, emotional fragility, and the search for hope during periods of darkness and creative block. The project translates internal experiences into a visual and metaphorical narrative, where the “house” becomes a symbol of the self—delicate, temporary, and constantly evolving. The visual language is rooted in abstraction and symbolism, using surreal imagery to represent feelings that are often difficult to articulate through words alone. Each spread is designed to function as both a standalone piece and part of a larger emotional journey, guiding the reader through moments of isolation, introspection, and quiet resilience. A muted yet expressive colour palette, combined with layered compositions, reinforces the sense of instability and introspection, while subtle shifts in tone introduce moments of warmth and optimism. Typography is treated with sensitivity, allowing the poetry and visuals to coexist without overpowering one another. This project reflects an exploration of how illustration and poetry can intersect to communicate complex emotional states, creating an intimate and immersive reading experience.
