Vessels of Memory

Stack of modern books and magazine with minimalist cover design on leather chair

project overview

This project is inspired by the idea that “the body is a vessel, and the soul is the traveller.” It features four illustrated vases, each representing a different culture and religion from the Indian subcontinent—Kalasha, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, and Islam. Each vase is decorated with symbolic patterns, motifs, and animals drawn from its tradition, reflecting unique ways of honouring the dead. The forms are left slightly open to suggest the soul’s departure, while the remaining details act as traces of memory and identity. The work explores how culture and beauty continue to exist beyond death, leaving behind lasting imprints of who we are.
